Episode 8

Ep 8. Healing & the Act of Love with Author and Recording Artist Tim Cross

I had the great pleasure of interviewing fellow Rennaissance Man Tim Cross, where we discussed the many passions he has going from his BBQ catering to his book to his music. We talked about how he manages his mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical energy as he navigates these passions to keep them flowing. We also had a real conversation about how authentic love is defined and demonstrated, mental health, the importance of kindness, and doing the work--no one is exempt. Like many of us, the road isn't always easy. It's what we do with the adversity that makes all the difference in our lives.

About My Guest:

Timothy J. Cross is a Rap Artist, Producer, Entrepreneur, & Published Author and is the youngest of four siblings. He's spent most of his life as a creator, using his talents as a music producer and writer to self-release his rap albums. His 3rd-grade teacher first noticed his skill as a writer who asked the class to write a page-long description of what it meant to be kind to others, during which time, he won first prize for the most well-written paper in his class. His first book, Perfect Love: The Bond of Perfection, is a natural progression and transition from musical verse & song structure to commentary & authorship. It continues to gain momentum & excitement, touching the hearts and minds of all who read it. It is more than likely the first of many to come. He also just released his first instrumental album, Black Sand, available on all digital platforms.

It’s possible to have a successful portfolio career if you have the personality for it (making money using all of your passions). Some multi-passionate people want to keep the fun for hobbies and the good enough job to pay the bills separate from one another, which totally is cool too. Which one are you? Carol Dickson-Carr

When people used to ask me what I do for a living for the past 14 years or so, I simplify by saying, “I teach people stuff.”

Teaching is my passion!

My undergraduate and graduate degrees are in economics and I’ve also received Coach training in various programs since 2004. Prior to moving to Dallas in 2007, I worked in the private sector calculating economic damages for an employment litigation firm for six years and was a legislative analyst for the House Finance and Tax Committee at the Florida Legislature for a little over five years. (Yawn)

I teach economics and workplace writing at Southern Methodist University and my teaching doesn’t stop on campus—nor do the subjects! I have a passion for things that keep me sane, such as music and movement. They started as hobbies but became moneymakers in private music lessons, play-shops, and fitness (Pilates and Dance). My days are NEVER dull!
